Conodoguinet Creek - Siebert Park Run

First thing’s first. How do you pronounce the creek’s name? Here’s our best breakdown: (KAHN-uh-doh-GWINN-it). Now that we’re acquainted, let’s move on to the water! The entire length of the creek is about 90 miles. The shallow waters and wide channel on this gentle waterway are trusted by families with younger children and beginners. You’re likely to see a variety of wildlife including herons, kingfishers, and more.

Siebert Park

 

We recommend a float that begins at Siebert Park and flows to the confluence with the Susquehanna River. It should take about 2.5 hours for the 2.6-mile float. 

Access:  Seibert Park 

Take-out: West Fairview Point 

*The take-out point is take-out only. No new trips would begin from this area. Portable restrooms and limited parking are available.

 

History Lesson

 

The creek gets its name from Native American words meaning “a long way with many bends.” The long, winding waterway was once a proposed connection between the Susquehanna and the Potomac rivers. Before the proposed “Conococheague-Conodoguinet” canal could be built as an all-water route between Harrisburg and Washington, railroads made the canals obsolete.
