Hiking at Ned Smith

The Berry Mountain Trail

The Berry Mountain Trail is one of the longer individual hikes within the Ned Smith Center trail system at 1.5 miles. It can be accessed via a separate (non-Ned Smith Center) parking area on Berry Mountain Road as well as via several of the trail heads near the center. If you start at Berry Mountain, you begin your hike downward. From this separate entrance, you have the option of an out and back hike of about 3 miles, or you can incorporate other trails within the system to extend the loop. If you begin at Ned Smith, you begin at the lower elevation and make your way up the mountain. The detailed trail map will allow you to map out your desired loop and length.

Photo Spots

The change in elevation from the entrance at the Ned Smith Center to the top of Berry’s Mountain offer several breathtaking views. Aside from the wildflowers and the constant beauty of the forested areas, hikers can stop for scenic views of the Susquehanna River flowing past the towns of Millersburg and Halifax.
