Kipona Celebration

Sep 1, 2012

Thousands of visitors from throughout the Mid-Atlantic and the Greater Harrisburg Region will be coming to the City of Harrisburg for the 2012 KIPONA Celebration, the mid-state’s traditional Labor Day end-of-summer Labor Celebration, and one of the largest and oldest annual inland waterfront festivals in the U.S.

This year the Harrisburg Kipona was named “Simply the Best” Festival and Free Entertainment event in Central Pennsylvania by Harrisburg Magazine. Central PA Parent’s Magazine reader’s poll voted the Harrisburg Kipona as the ‘Best Local Festival’ in the region.

The three-day celebration features the most extensive array of family and general activities ever put on by the City and it runs from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday, 12 Noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, and 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday. The thrilling KIPONA Fireworks display will be held on Sunday, September 2, at 8:35 p.m., with Monday night slated as a rain date.

The multi-genre musical line-up on three stages in Riverfront Park of the 2012 Kipona Fest in Harrisburg, PA is one of the most exciting festivals in recent memory. Virtually every popular genre of music is spotlighted on each of the three stages throughout Riverfront Park over Labor Day Weekend, providing over 100 hours of live concerts and it’s all FREE!

The festival will also feature:

  • 16th Annual Native American Pow Wow
  • Saturday’s Chili Cookoff
  • Dick Reese Classic Canoe Races
  • 6th Annual Harrisburg Youth “Street Soccer” Tournament
  • 28th Annual “Breath of Nature” Karate Tournament
